|
| 1:8 | "My son, hear the instruction of your father, and do not forsake the law of your mother; " |
| 3:13 | "Happy is the man who finds wisdom, and the man who gains understanding; " |
| 4:1-10 | 1.
"Hear, my children, the instruction of a father, and give attention
to know understanding; 2. for I give you good doctrine: do not forsake my law. 3. When I was my father's son, tender and the only one in the sight of my mother, 4. He also taught me, and said to me: "Let your heart retain my words; keep my commands, and live. 5. Get wisdom! Get understanding! Do not forget, nor turn away from the words of my mouth. 6. Do not forsake her, and she will preserve you; love her, and she will keep you. 7. Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding. 8. Exalt her, and she will promote you; she will bring you honor, when you embrace her. 9. She will place on your head an ornament of grace; a crown of glory she will deliver to you.'' 10. Hear, my son, and receive my sayings, and the years of your life will be many." |
| 5:15-20 | 15.
"Drink water from your own cistern, and running water from your own
well. 16. Should your fountains be dispersed abroad, streams of water in the streets? 17. Let them be only your own, and not for strangers with you. 18. Let your fountain be blessed, and rejoice with the wife of your youth. 19. As a loving deer and a graceful doe, let her breasts satisfy you at all times; and always be enraptured with her love. 20. For why should you, my son, be enraptured by an immoral woman, and be embraced in the arms of a seductress?" |
| 6:20-22 | 20.
"My son, keep your father's command, and do not forsake the law of
your mother. 21. Bind them continually upon your heart; tie them around your neck. 22. When you roam, they will lead you; when you sleep, they will keep you; and when you awake, they will speak with you." |
|
8:1-7 |
1.
"Does not wisdom cry out, and understanding lift up her voice? 2. She takes her stand on the top of the high hill, beside the way, where the paths meet. 3. She cries out by the gates, at the entry of the city, at the entrance of the doors: 4. "To you, O men, I call, and my voice is to the sons of men. 5. O you simple ones, understand prudence, and you fools, be of an understanding heart. 6. Listen, for I will speak of excellent things, and from the opening of my lips will come right things; 7. for my mouth will speak truth; wickedness is an abomination to my lips." |
| 8:11 | " . . . for wisdom is better than rubies, and all the things one may desire cannot be compared with her." |
| 12:4 | " . . . an excellent wife is the crown of her husband, but she who causes shame is like rottenness in his bones." |
| 13:24 | "He who spares his rod hates his son, but he who loves him disciplines him promptly." |
| 14:1 | "Every wise woman builds her house, but the foolish pulls it down with her hands." |
| 15:14 | "The heart of him who has understanding seeks knowledge, but the mouth of fools feeds on foolishness." |
| 17:6 | "Children's children are the crown of old men, and the glory of children is their father." |
| 18:22 | "He who finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor from the Lord." |
| 22:6 | "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it." |
| 22:15 | "Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of correction will drive it far from him" |
| 23:13-14 | 13.
"Do not withhold correction from a child, for if you beat
him with a rod, he will not die. 14. You shall beat him with a rod, and deliver his soul from hell." |
| 24:3 | "Through wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established;" |
| 29:15 | "The rod and reproof give wisdom, but a child left to himself brings shame to his mother." |
| 29:17 | "Correct your son, and he will give you rest; yes, he will give delight to your soul." |
| 31:10-31 | 10.
"Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above
rubies. 11. The heart of her husband safely trusts her; so he will have no lack of gain. 12. She does him good and not evil all the days of her life. 13. She seeks wool and flax, and willingly works with her hands. 14. She is like the merchant ships, she brings her food from afar. 15. She also rises while it is yet night, and provides food for her household, and a portion for her maidservants. 16. She considers a field and buys it; from her profits she plants a vineyard. 17. She girds herself with strength, and strengthens her arms. 18. She perceives that her merchandise is good, and her lamp does not go out by night. 19. She stretches out her hands to the distaff, and her hand holds the spindle. 20. She extends her hand to the poor, yes, she reaches out her hands to the needy. 21. She is not afraid of snow for her household, for all her household is clothed with scarlet. 22. She makes tapestry for herself; her clothing is fine linen and purple. 23. Her husband is known in the gates, when he sits among the elders of the land. 24. She makes linen garments and sells them, and supplies sashes for the merchants. 25. Strength and honor are her clothing; she shall rejoice in time to come. 26. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and on her tongue is the law of kindness. 27. She watches over the ways of her household, and does not eat the bread of idleness. 28. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: 29. "Many daughters have done well, but you excel them all.'' 30. Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised. 31. Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her own works praise her in the gates." |
| 4:9-12 | 9.
"Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their
labor. 10. For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, for he has no one to help him up. 11. Again, if two lie down together, they will keep warm; but how can one be warm alone? 12. Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him. and a threefold cord is not quickly broken." |
| 7:19 | "Wisdom strengthens the wise more than ten rulers of the city." |
| 9:9 | "Live joyfully with the wife whom you love all the days of your vain life which He has given you under the sun, all your days of vanity; for that is your portion in life, and in the labor which you perform under the sun." |
